5 Rules for Halloween Pet Safety

Stay Safe & Spooky This Halloween

From candy and trick-or-treating to parties and dancing, there’s always a celebration on Halloween night for us humans. Unfortunately, Halloween isn’t always fun for our furry family. At Pampered Pet Resorts, we’re dedicated to your pet’s safety year-round, so we’ve put together a list of tips to keep your pets safe this spooky season!

1. Beware of tricky treats
Be sure to keep candy (especially chocolate), pumpkins, and any other potential hazards out of your pet’s reach at all times. We recommend keeping candy bowls on an elevated surface or the front porch, and keeping pets away from jack-o-lanterns lit with tea lights, as any bump in the night could be a fire hazard.
2. Keep them away from the hocus pocus
Even the friendliest of pets can be spooked by a stranger or even a familiar face in a costume. For cats, the danger of potential violence, especially for black cats, increases exponentially on Halloween. Keeping pets away from the action and high-traffic areas like the front door is the best way to keep them safe.
3. Be pup-to-date
Pets may run if they get too spooked or decide to escape for some trick-or-treating of their own, so be sure to update their collar ID tags and microchip information to help them find their way back home.
4. Costumes are optional
Some pets don’t want to dress up, and that’s okay! If they do like to get into the spooky spirit, take the time to familiarize your pet with their costume before Halloween. This will decrease the likelihood of overstimulation or discomfort, and allow you to see if any adjustments are needed to get that perfect fit.
5. Create a space free of ghosts or ghouls
Sometimes pets just need a break from the excitement. Set up a cozy spot in a quiet room or crate to give them a safe space away from it all.

We wish our Pampered Pet community a happy Halloween full of tricks, treats, and belly rubs!
